The Department for Transport (DfT) said it will be running tests on the Fiat Chrysler's Jeep Grand Cherokee model in the wake of emissions accusations from the US. The Italian Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has supplied clarifications on the tests conducted in Italy on the 500X, as well as the replies sent to Brussels.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles 500 subcompact vehicles sit on display for sale on the lot of the AutoNation FIAT South Bay dealership in Hawthorne, California, U.S., on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016. Dobrindt turned to the European Union in order to instate a recall on Fiat vehicles. "We haven't asked for any further investigations into Volkswagen-we trusted them".

Fiat Chrysler has been allegedly violated the Clean Air Act by neglecting to reveal its engine-management software that allows to excess diesel emissions.

The software is believed to have artificially lowered the amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) produced by the engines during test conditions, then allowing the engines to produce more than the legal limit when driven normally. But excessive emissions do not necessarily indicate the presence of fraudulent devices.

A week ago, the European Commission approached Italy to give confirmation against Germany's assertions.

The proposed class action alleges Fiat Chrysler equipped about 10,000 diesel Dodge RAM 1500 pickup trucks and Jeep Grand Cherokees in Canada with software to defeat emissions testing.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee will undergo tests in the United Kingdom following accusations lodged against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the USA last week.

Italy replied that, "contrary to what the spokesperson declared, we have always responded to the EU Commission's requests". FCA US intends to work with the incoming administration to present its case and resolve this matter fairly and equitably and to assure the EPA and FCA US customers that the company's diesel-powered vehicles meet all applicable regulatory requirements.
