Guards have been taken hostage by inmates inside a maximum-security prison in DE, putting all the state's prisons on lockdown as police swarmed the facility.
The Vaughn Correctional Center houses 2,500 people including maximum security inmates, according to the Delaware Department of Corrections website. He said he heard an unknown number of prisoners have taken control of a building wing, possibly the prison's C building that houses medium and high security prisoners.
Bruce Rogers, counsel for the Correctional Officers Association of DE, told The Associated Press that there were injuries among both inmates and hostages.
State corrections spokesperson Jayme Gravell confirmed that a hostage situation is ongoing, and police negotiators and state police are on the scene, WBOC reported.

While Geoffrey Klopp, president of the Correctional Officers Association of DE, confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that prisoners had taken hostages, few other details were immediately available.
It's not known how many guards have are being held.
The situation has been described as "an isolated incident", with "no threat to the public". The prison carries out executions, as well. Gravell says firefighters were called to the scene after reports of smoke, but they're being held on standby.
A department sharpshooter later shot and killed 45-year-old Scott Miller, according to the report, ending that standoff.
