The 49ers are reportedly releasing veteran wide receiver Torrey Smith, according to NFL Network analyst Steve Smith Sr.
Over the weekend, the 49ers elected to re-sign Kerley and followed it up by cutting ties with the former Terp. In two seasons, he caught a total of 53 passes for a team that went 7-25 (.218) in that period. Steve Smith Sr. has made a decision to hang up the cleats following the 2016 season, having played his final three years as a member of the Ravens.
San Francisco had about as subpar of quarterback play as a team can have during Smith's time in the Bay Area.

It certainly has nothing to do with character concerns, as Smith is as good a guy as you will find in the NFL.
