At least 13 civilians were among the casualties of government forces’ shelling Wednesday attack on a market and road in the last section of rebel-held territory. This was a major test for Russia’s fragile security alliance with Turkey.
The shelling that took place on Wednesday morning came shortly after an attack by roadside bombers in Damascus, which left at least 14 dead. The Qasioun Brigade, a small insurgent group that claims responsibility for the roadside bombing claimed it was vengeance against “the daily massacres” committed by the government. The Wall Street Journal couldn’t verify its claim.
