Abdulrazak Gurnah Wins Nobel Prize in Literature

Abdulrazak Gurnah was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature because of his compassionate and uncompromising presentation on colonialism’s effects and the fates of refugees.

Mr. Gurnah is a native of 1948, and was raised on Zanzibar (now part of Tanzania).

Mr. Gurnah was born in 1948, and grew up on the island of Zanzibar, now part of Tanzania. He was until his retirement professor of English, postcolonial literatures, at the University of Kent in Canterbury.
