Afghan Resettlement Effort Slowed by Housing, Tech Constraints

The push to resettle first wave of Afghan refugees brought to the U.S . will take several months more than originally anticipated due to a measles epidemic, a national housing shortage , and delays in paperwork.

According to officials from the Defense Department and volunteers who were involved in the operations, initially the goal was to relocate the evacuees before the end of this year. However, officials informed volunteer groups earlier in the month that they might be required through March. One defense official stated, “There’s no way that we can finish by Christmas.”
