Almost Half of Afghan Evacuees at U.S. Bases Are Children, Pentagon Says

Seventy-five percent of the 53,000 Afghan refugees who arrived in the U.S. to live at military bases are children. This underscores the many challenges that officials face when trying to resettle Afghans.

This disclosure marked the first time that the military had provided information about the evacuations. It was included in the Defense SecretaryLloyd A. Austin’s Oct. 8 reply to Sen. James Inhofe (R. Okla), who was asked written questions by Senator James Inhofe.
