Russia Orders People Not to Go to Work as Covid-19 Deaths Mount

MOSCOW – Russian President Vladimir Putin directed people to avoid work for at most a week. Meanwhile, Latvia introduced a Covid -19 month-long lockdown. As deaths rise, there are renewed concerns about another round of infection as winter approaches.

A decree was signed Wednesday by Mr. Putin. It entitles a time of non-working days that began Oct. 30, and ends Nov. 7. This is to encourage people not to travel and to slow the spread of the virus .. The measures can be extended or speeded up by regional governments in areas where the infection rate is high. Employers will continue to pay staff members as long as they are home.
