U.N. Gets $1 Billion for Afghan Relief as Taliban Promise Access for Aid

The United Nations announced Monday that it had received $1 billion from the Taliban in the form of pledges to help stop a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. This was in response to a letter by Taliban officials stating that the Taliban would permit aid workers to freely operate in the country.

The U.N. appealed for $600 millions to help the 11million Afghans. This includes food distribution and shelter for the following four months. Although the U.S. and allies are ready to help, they will not do so through the Taliban government , that no other country recognizes yet .
